LECTURER: DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY

Anthropology at the University of the Western Cape has recently been reconstituted as its own department, reinvigorating a long-standing tradition of rigorous ethnographic research and pedagogy oriented towards critical questions emergent in our African context.  The Department invites applicants for the position of Lecturer to contribute towards the growth of a vibrant and collegial department with a strong cohort of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The successful person will be expected to:

  • contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level;
  • conduct and contribute to research;
  • contribute to postgraduate supervision;
  • perform academic administrative tasks and duties within the department;
  • actively participate in community engagement projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • a Master’s degree in Anthropology or related discipline;
  • a PhD in Anthropology or cognate discipline (or very close to completion), will be a preference;
  • strong academic record
  • evidence of strong scholarship and research;
  • evidence of publications;

Some experience in teaching Anthropology or a related discipline at the undergraduate level.
